Content

Internet Protocols. Protocol mechanism and design techniques, that are typically used in network protocols (especially in the Internet). This includes a discussion of the reasons for using them. Implementation principles. Network architecture: principles that lead to the design of network architectures. Network algorithms. Simulation of networks.

Registration

Please register for the course and exam in TUMOnline. Registration for the project was open until October 19th.

Project

There will be an accompanying programming project (development of an HTTP proxy over SCTP). The project gives a 50% bonus for the final exam (see details below). Participation in the project is voluntary but highly recommended. Please register for the project via the form linked above. The project description is available for download.

Exam

There will be a written exam at the end of the term. If you successfully completed the project, the earned credits of the project are added to your exam result. The weighting between exam and project is 50:50. It is possible to achieve a 1.0 without the project. The project is considered as bonus, i.e. degrading your exam result due to the project is not possible. The project bonus is also credited against the resit.

The exam is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2013, from 9:00 to 10:00am in MI HS1. The exam will be closed book, i.e., no supplemental material is allowed (you won't even need a pocket calculator - but you should have a precision of 1E-03 built-in (; ).

To help you prepare for the exam, we provide you with a trial exam and an accompanying cheat sheet, which would be handed out together with this exam if it was a real one. This should give you a rough idea of how the written exam might look like. Of course, there is absolutely no guarantee that problems from the trial exam may be stated again in the real one.

The results of the final exam are published in TUMOnline. The post-exam review will take place on

  • Friday, March 1, 2013 1:00pm - 2:00pm and
  • Monday, March 4, 2013 1:00pm - 2:00pm

in room 03.05.033. To register, please send a short Email to guenther[at]in.tum.de.

The resit exam is scheduled for 11:30am-12:30pm on Tuesday, April 2 2013, in room MI HS2. The registration period in TUMOnline starts on March 11. You have to register in TUMOnline even if you failed the endterm. The resit will be written / closed-book and the project credits (if any) also count to the resit.

Below you find past exams. Please note that the solutions are only proposals and do not represent the sole correct solution. Similar, credits given to partial answers as indicated by check marks are only a rough guidance. We expect short and precise answers in the exam, but neither buzzwords only nor identical wording.
