Details
Marc-Oliver Pahl heads the IoT Smart Space (s2o) research team. The s2o team focuses on enablers for a secure, interoperable, resilient, and scalable Internet of Things (IoT). The s2o team currently hosts the following PhD candidates:
Since October 2019, Marc-Oliver is also Research Director at the Institut Mines Telecom in Rennes, France.
During his PhD he developed the Distributed Smart Space Orchestration System (DS2OS), which structures and facilitates the creation of services that implement Pervasive Computing scenarios. The design of DS2OS provides a basis for crowdsourced software development for smart spaces, complementing the hardware maker culture that is currently emerging with platforms such as the Arduino.
Marc-Oliver Pahl studied Informatics at the Universität Tübingen with emphasis on computer networks, computer graphics, and media science. In 2008 he joined the Network Architectures and Services group at Technische Universität München where he finished his PhD with highest honor in 2014.
In 2003, Marc-Oliver Pahl created one of the first eLearning-supported hands-on labs in Germany. He developed a special blended learning concept for supporting and motivating students in their learning. Until 2014 more than 1200 students practically acquired basic and advanced networking skills in his lab courses. In 2013 he received the Ernst Otto Fischer teaching price from Technische Universität München. In 2020 he received the TUM supervisory award for outstanding PhD supervision.
